The earthquake struck Christchurch a week ago today.

It caught Cantabrians by surprise. The day before, all was well.

Happily families looked forward to a pleasant spring weekend together.

The next day, chaos reined. Thankfully, no-one was killed in the quake.

By some coincidence it is also the ninth anniversary of another disaster, but this time a man-made one.

Again, this took the inhabitants of the city it targeted by complete surprise.

And caused immense carnage.

But then do we believe in coincidences? Maybe 911 was Jim Anderton’s dry run.
