Political commentator Matthew “fair and balanced” Hooton may have a scoop on his hands:

If this is true (and why wouldn’t it be? When has old Hoots ever misled us?), then why haven’t I heard anything about it? I’m Labour and I’m West Auckland, and I know a lot of West Auckland Labour people.

Why would they cut me out of this? Okay, so I’m a blabbermouth and would probably blow the lid off their covert moves, but apart from that?

Oh, and the fact that my opinions change by the hour, and that I would no sooner have signed the petition before I’d be denouncing it.

The other possibility is that there is no petition. But why would Matthew Hooton lie to us? Why? Why?
